Bifocal Lenses

Bifocals provide a partial remedy to the problem of having more than one pair of glasses by combining reading and distance portions within one lenses. They are basically distance glasses with a reading segment in the bottom. However, as there is no intermediate correction, anything at arms length can still seem blurred, hence it can be awkward to use bifocals with a computer.

With bifocals you can actually see the reading segment on the lens, which comes in various shapes, the most popular being the ‘D' shaped segment that looks like a letter D on its side with the flat part at the top. There is also the ‘round' segment, and the ‘E' style bifocal, where the whole of the bottom segment of the lens is given over to reading (idealfor those that do a lot of close work).
