Single Vision Lenses

Just as the name implies ‘Single Vision' lenses are used to correct one aspect of vision only. They can be used to improve reading, intermediate or distance vision. Long sighted people need glasses for reading, as they have trouble focusing on near objects, whilst those that are short sighted will generally need to wear their spectacles all of the time, as they cannot see clearly in the distance. The extent to which a person relies upon their glasses depends upon the degree of the problem.

As we age, the muscles in our eyes loose the ability to focus as well as when we are young, hence, most people over the age of 40 will need reading glasses. You may have already tried ‘ready-readers' or ‘off-the-shelf' reading spectacles. Whilst reading glasses are great for improving your near vision, this can mean taking your glasses on and off when you need to read, or peering over the top of your frames to see into the distance. If you need glasses for the distance as well, this can lead to constantly having to switch between two pairs of glasses. Also ready readers will not correct your prescription completely if you have ‘astigmatism' (i.e. if your eyeball isn't completely spherical, but is shaped more like a rugby ball).

Single vision lenses are available in both plastic and glass and in all varieties of indexes.
