Types of Lenses
Single Vision
Just as the name implies ‘Single Vision' lenses are used to correct one aspect of vision only. They can be used to improve reading, intermediate or distance vision. Long sighted people need glasses for reading, as they have trouble focusing on near objects, whilst those that are short sighted will generally need to wear their spectacles all of the time, as they cannot see clearly in the distance.

Bifocals
Bifocals provide a partial remedy to the problem of having more than one pair of glasses by combining reading and distance portions within one lenses. They are basically distance glasses with a reading segment in the bottom. However, as there is no intermediate correction, anything at arms length can still seem blurred, hence it can be awkward to use bifocals with a computer.

Varifocals
Varifocals are really three lenses in one. They offer the best all-round solution as they provide correction for near, intermediate and distance vision, which are smoothly graduated throughout the lens (so there is no visible segment as with bifocals). It is because of this that it is important to choose a frame that has sufficient depth to accommodate the type of varifocal lens fitted to them. It is also critical that the frame it fitted to you correctly so that accurate measurements of your pupil heights and distance can be taken, ensuring that the lenses can be manufactured to your specific requirements. Failure to do this correctly will make seeing through varifocals seem very strange and uncomfortable.
